Thanaweya Amma decides university places in Egypt, so the pressure is real, and most students answer it the same way: more hours, more lessons, more summaries. The students who score highest usually do something different. They test themselves early, they keep a record of every mistake, and they spend the last months answering questions instead of rereading.
This plan works for scientific and literary tracks. Use it for your own subjects; the structure is the same.
First term: build the map, not the notes
- Make one checklist per subject from the official curriculum contents: every unit and every lesson.
- After each lesson at school, answer 15-20 questions on it within two days. Do not wait for the unit to end.
- Mark each lesson green (no mistakes), amber (you hesitated) or red (you got it wrong). Your red list is your real timetable.
- Start an error notebook: one line per mistake, written in your own words, with the correct idea.
Second term: turn red into green
- Each study session takes one red lesson: questions first, then the explanation, then reread only the part behind your mistakes.
- Re-test the same lesson two or three days later. Two clean attempts move it to green.
- Once a week, do a mixed set across the whole subject. Real exams jump between units and do not tell you which rule to use.
- Practise every question format your exam uses, not only multiple choice: short answers, essay questions, problems with steps.
The final 8 weeks: exam conditions
- Sit one full timed paper per subject each week, with no notes and your phone in another room.
- Mark it the same day and copy every mistake into the error notebook.
- In the last ten days, stop new material. Reread the error notebook and redo the questions you got wrong.
Losing marks on topics you already know is the most common problem in Thanaweya Amma. Timed papers and an error notebook fix it faster than another round of lessons.
