Hallo is a general greeting; guten Morgen is used in the morning and guten Abend in the evening. Danke means thank you. Bitte can mean please or you’re welcome. Auf Wiedersehen is a goodbye.
Ich heiße introduces your name, ich komme aus gives your origin, and ich bin ... Jahre alt gives your age. Du addresses one familiar person. Formal Sie and its verb are used for polite address; capitalize Sie in this use.
German nouns begin with a capital letter. Learn der, die or das with each noun: der Tisch, die Lampe, das Buch. Die is also the definite plural article. Ein is masculine/neuter nominative; eine is feminine nominative.
Sein changes to ich bin, du bist and wir sind. Haben changes to er hat. Regular present-tense verbs often use -t with er/sie and -en with formal Sie. In a basic statement, place the conjugated verb after the subject.
Ich möchte is a polite way to request something. Kein negates an indefinite noun: ich habe kein Auto. Wo asks where, wie viel asks how much. Zwei is 2, acht is 8; um acht Uhr means at eight o’clock.
Identify who does what, where and when. Wohnt means lives, Brüder means brothers, öffnet means opens and schließt means closes. Montag is Monday and Dienstag is Tuesday. Answer from the text, not from assumptions.
