If you are looking for a grade 10 math term 1 exam or a grade 10 physics term 1 exam, this guide lays out both subjects unit by unit following the Palestinian curriculum, with a worked example from each part, then shows how to practise them on EXAMEV.
Grade 10 math, term 1: three units
- Unit 1: Functions and their graphs. Lessons: even and odd functions, translations, reflections, sign of a function, solving inequalities, piecewise functions, absolute value, the greatest integer function.
- Unit 2: Exponents and logarithms. Lessons: exponents and logarithms, the exponential function, the logarithmic function.
- Unit 3: Statistics and probability. Lessons: linear correlation, Pearson's coefficient, Spearman's coefficient, simple linear regression, the counting principle, permutations, combinations, the binomial theorem.
Worked examples in math
- Even or odd? f(x) = x³ − x gives f(−x) = −x³ + x = −f(x), so f is odd. For g(x) = x² + 3, g(−x) = g(x), so g is even.
- Absolute value: |x − 2| < 3 means −3 < x − 2 < 3, so −1 < x < 5.
- Logarithm: log₃ 81 = 4 because 3⁴ = 81.
- Counting: arranging 2 people out of 5 can be done in 5 × 4 = 20 ways (permutations); choosing 2 without order gives 20 ÷ 2 = 10 (combinations).
Grade 10 physics: four units
- Unit 1: Mechanics. Measurement, the vernier caliper and micrometer, vectors, displacement, velocity and acceleration, free fall, force and Newton's laws.
- Unit 2: Fluids. Fluid pressure, atmospheric pressure and Pascal's principle, Archimedes' principle and buoyancy.
- Unit 3: Heat. Specific heat, thermal equilibrium, thermal expansion, the gas laws, the laws of thermodynamics.
- Unit 4: Astronomy. The celestial sphere, the Sun's apparent motion, the Moon's motion, eclipses.
Worked examples in physics
- Pressure: P = F ÷ A = 200 ÷ 0.5 = 400 Pa.
- Hydraulic press: F₂ = F₁ × A₂ ÷ A₁ = 10 × 50 ÷ 2 = 250 N.
- Heat: Q = m·c·ΔT = 2 × 4180 × 10 = 83,600 J (water, c = 4180 J/kg·K).
- Two perpendicular vectors of magnitude 3 and 4 give a resultant of √(9 + 16) = 5.
Write the givens and units before substituting. In physics convert units first (cm² to m², °C to kelvin where needed); in math check your answer by putting it back into the original condition.
How EXAMEV helps
On EXAMEV the grade 10 math term 1 bank has 766 questions on the three units, and the grade 10 physics bank has 987: 459 in mechanics, 153 in fluids, 193 in heat and 182 in astronomy. Question types include multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blank, short answer, matching, ordering, multi-select and advanced questions, each with an explanation. In each bank start with a 25-question practice set, then a timed exam, then the full 42-question exam of 120 minutes.
